Short version: Newegg rules, USPS sux0rz.
The USPS lost my package yesterday, and posted it as confirmed delivered on their website. It simply was not in my mail when I checked when I got home.
It looks like it will take a couple weeks for things to get sorted, assuming my claim goes smoothly.
And it may not. USPS has confirmed delivery, so if I say that it wasn't in the mail -- and it wasn't -- then it's just my word against theirs. There's a chance that this claim is going to be denied.
This means I may not have the memory card I paid for in time for Christmas, if at all
I'd ordered the card online (Newegg) because all brick-and-mortar vendors and many online vendors charge really high prices for flash memory compared to what the cheapest purveyors of such items sell them for. This is particularly true if you want/need a card with a capacity of 16gb or higher, or a speed rating of class 6 or better.
Wanting to play with my camera some this weekend to begin to get a feel for it in time for Xmas, and indeed facing the possibility that I won't actually have the card I ordered in hand in time for the holiday, I went ahead and bought one from a camera shop today just so I'd have something in hand.
For about what Newegg charged me for a 32gb class 6 card I got an 8gb one.
This all sucks very much. The last item I had delivered via USPS got missorted to a town about 25 miles away and delayed a few days while they found it and rerouted it.
I think from now on, I'm just going to pay the slight extra and get UPS or FedEx delivery (I've had my issues with DHL too).
Either that, or just buy from Amazon (I have Prime with them, so I can usually get 2-day courier service cheap).
Newegg, if you're scanning blogs for posts like this, do yourselves a favor and figure out a better way to deliver cheaply. The USPS isn't cutting it.

New phone
Touch Pro 2 on Sprint. Awesome phone. Takes some tweaking (it *is* WinMo), but does everything. And HTC's TouchFlo3D UI is actually quite well-designed.

Dan Savage
Just got into his podcast. Used to read his column on The Stranger and Village Voice regularly, but kinda got tired of it after awhile. Still occasionally read it.
Nice to come back to. He's a very smart, thoughtful guy who gives good advice, and you learn a lot about the wide wide world out there.
My wife, who is somewhat less kink-aware than I am, actually started listening to the podcast before I did, a couple weeks ago. She's told me that though she finds it interesting, she can only listen to it for a few minutes at a time because after awhile her ears just start burning. I've told her that it might be smart to go back in Dan's archives and pick things up earlier. When I started listening to it I basically dl'd all the available editions and started from the beginning, and the earlier podcasts seem to be 'milder' than the columns I remember reading more recently.

Bing Cashback ripped me off.
I made two purchases a couple months ago, and Bing has not been able to credit me for them.
I contacted their tech support people. The story I got from them was that there is/was apparently some glitch in their account setup process involving customers who used comcast.net e-mail addresses as their contact addresses. They (I dealt with several different care reps) seemed to think that sending me repeated 'sign up for Cashback' links instructing me to go through the signup process again would fix the problem.
I tried this several times and the problem has yet to be resolved.
Finally, I just gave up and told them to leave me alone and stop contacting me unless it was to tell me that the situation was resolved and there was now $$ in my Bing Cashback account.
That was, I guess, a couple weeks ago now. This has been going on for at least a couple months I think.
Anyway, I looked again today, and my Bing Cashback account is still all 0s.
Bing Cashback has thus to me proven to be a waste of time and a ripoff. I will avoid using it in the future, and would advise others to do so as well.
