Short version: Newegg rules, USPS sux0rz.
The USPS lost my package yesterday, and posted it as confirmed delivered on their website. It simply was not in my mail when I checked when I got home.
It looks like it will take a couple weeks for things to get sorted, assuming my claim goes smoothly.
And it may not. USPS has confirmed delivery, so if I say that it wasn't in the mail -- and it wasn't -- then it's just my word against theirs. There's a chance that this claim is going to be denied.
This means I may not have the memory card I paid for in time for Christmas, if at all
I'd ordered the card online (Newegg) because all brick-and-mortar vendors and many online vendors charge really high prices for flash memory compared to what the cheapest purveyors of such items sell them for. This is particularly true if you want/need a card with a capacity of 16gb or higher, or a speed rating of class 6 or better.
Wanting to play with my camera some this weekend to begin to get a feel for it in time for Xmas, and indeed facing the possibility that I won't actually have the card I ordered in hand in time for the holiday, I went ahead and bought one from a camera shop today just so I'd have something in hand.
For about what Newegg charged me for a 32gb class 6 card I got an 8gb one.
This all sucks very much. The last item I had delivered via USPS got missorted to a town about 25 miles away and delayed a few days while they found it and rerouted it.
I think from now on, I'm just going to pay the slight extra and get UPS or FedEx delivery (I've had my issues with DHL too).
Either that, or just buy from Amazon (I have Prime with them, so I can usually get 2-day courier service cheap).
Newegg, if you're scanning blogs for posts like this, do yourselves a favor and figure out a better way to deliver cheaply. The USPS isn't cutting it.
